In the USA, Labor Day is celebrated on the first Monday of September. For 2011, Labor Day falls on September 5.

During the 3 day Labor Day weekend (September 3-5, 2011), kayakers across the USA will be taking to the water to enjoy exploring, photography, birding, fishing, geo-caching and other activities.

Although summer vacations are coming to an end, the upcoming fall season can be an excellent time for kayaking. Cool fall mornings are often free of insects, high winds and summertime crowds.

After Labor Day, kayaking continues to improve in many areas for several weeks. In most regions, fishing improves considerably during the early fall. For photography enthusiasts and explorers, fall foliage along kayaking paths turn brilliant colors during the fall season.
